Marquette Fourth Through Two Rounds at El Macero Classic

Nick Nelson jumped 31 spots into a tie for 22nd place with a 1-under-par second round.

- Three Marquette players - Nick Nelson (71), Oliver Farrell (74) and CJ Swift (73) - shot second round scores of 74 or better, lifting the Golden Eagles ahead a spot into a tie for fourth place (307-295-602) with 36 holes completed at the El Macero Classic, hosted by UC Davis at El Macero C.C.

In a second round where scoring conditions significantly improved from Friday’s average of 78.68 to 75.50, Nelson was one of just nine players in the 90-player field to shoot under par in Saturday’s second round.  He jumped 31 spots into a tie for 22nd with his second round 1-under-par.  After posting an 8-over-par 80 on Friday, Nelson made three birdies on his final 10 holes Saturday to come in under par.

Farrell sits tied for 16th after shooting 76-74-150 in his first two rounds - he went out from No. 1 at 2-over-par before rallying to pull even on the back nine.  At 6-over-par for the event. Farrell is just five shots out of fourth place and eight off the lead.

Swift (T-22) is level with teammate Nelson in a tie for 22nd place through 36 holes - he came in 2-under-par on the way to shooting a second round 73.

Marquette is 16 strokes off the pace set by leader Texas Tech - the Red Raiders have a 10-over-par 586 through 36 holes.

Round three tees off for the Golden Eagles off No. 1 at 9:45 a.m. CT on Sunday - MU is paired with Oregon State and Sacramento State for final round play.
