Marquette, Gray Sit Atop Leaderboard At BIG EAST Championship

HEBRON, Ky. - The Marquette University men's golf team sits in first place with a three-stroke lead over Seton Hall following round one of the BIG EAST Championship. The Golden Eagles fired a three-over par 291 at the par-72 Traditions Golf Club. MU senior Ted Gray is currently atop the individual leaderboard with a four-under 68.

Gray fired a four-under 32 on the front nine and carded an even-par 36 on the back. It was his lowest stroke total since he fired a 66 at the Xavier Invitational this past fall. Gray carded six birdies on the day and holds a three-stroke advantage over Seton Hall's John Zur (71).

Senior Michael Bielawski and junior Mike Van Sickle both shot even par and are tied for sixth place overall.

Defending champion Louisville is in a tie for third with Notre Dame at eight-over 296. Senior Daryl Fathauer led the Cardinals with a one-over 73 and Sandman's 71 led the Irish.

The BIG EAST Golf Championships will continue on Monday at 8:00 a.m. and conclude with Tuesday's third and final round. Live stats are available online at
