The Marquette University men's golf team wrapped up its successful 2014-15 campaign Saturday afternoon with an 11th-place finish at the NCAA Noblesville Regional, hosted by The Sagamore Club and Ball State University.

Marquette (306-290-308=904), which entered the day 11 shots out of fifth place (seventh overall) and the opportunity to advance to the NCAA Championship, wasn't able to make a run during the final round of competition and saw both Oregon and UNLV card improved team scores to secure the last two positions.

"We talked as a team about putting ourselves in a position to advance and that's what we did with yesterday's round," head coach Steve Bailey said. "Unfortunately today we didn't get off to a great start and weren't able to gain any momentum. We have to do a better job of managing our bad shots and today was an example of them getting away from us."

The Golden Eagles, seeded 12th in the 14-team regional, were making their second appearance in the NCAAs after winning the 2015 BIG EAST Conference Championship and earning the league's automatic bid to the event. The postseason appearance was the team's first since 2008, when the squad also claimed the conference title and an invitation to the regional.

Junior Pat Sanchez and senior Brandon Cloete were the team's top finishers, earning a share of 29th with a three-round total of 223. Both players collected three birdies on their respective front nine (holes 10-18), but weren't able to take advantage of the remainder of the course the rest of the way.

"It's been a great week and there is a lot to take away from the experience," Bailey said. "I think it was a great barometer for our guys and they have now proven they can compete with the top teams in the country. In order for us to take the next step we have to work on our consistency throughout the weekend."
