Konieczki, Motz Pace Marquette Golfers at Wolverine Intercollegiate

ANN ARBOR, Mich. - Sophomores Michael Motz and Corey Konieczki led a young Marquette University men's golf team Monday on the opening day of the 2011 men's golf fall season. The Golden Eagles enter Tuesday's final round at U-M Golf Course in 10th place at the Wolverine Intercollegiate hosted by the University of Michigan.

Motz and Konieczki are tied for 26th place on the individual leaderboard. Konieczki fired a 1-under-par 70 in the first round Monday before turning in a 75 to finish of the day. Motz shot the same scores in opposite order to stay even with Konieczki at 3-over 145 for the tournament with one round remaining.

Konieczki was tied for seventh following the first round of play and Marquette tied for eighth with Detroit. Senior Matt Haase carded back-to-back scores of 74, three strokes behind the abovementioned underclassmen.

Monday also marked the collegiate debut of Marquette freshmen CJ Swift, Austin Wilson and Will Joiner.
