WAYZATA, Minn. -- The Marquette men's golf team is tied for fifth place following the second round of action Saturday at the Gopher Invitational. The Golden Eagles were able to hold their ground largely due to the efforts of seniors Mike Van Sickle and Dustin Schwab, as both golfers moved into the top-five on the individual leaderboard.

Van Sickle finished today's round with a five-under-par 67, which tied for the low round of the tournament. He was one-under on the front nine before carding four birdies and five pars on the back nine. Van Sickle's 11 birdies overall are the most for an individual in the event.

The All-American was one of the biggest movers on the day. Van Sickle was tied for 23rd place heading into Saturday, but now finds himself three strokes off of the leader, John Peterson of LSU, at three-under 141 (74-67) for the tournament and tied for third overall.

Schwab maintained his steady play is is tied for fifth place at two-under 142 (73-69). Iowa was the only other school with two golfers to shoot in the 60s Saturday, as Schwab fired a three-under 69. Schwab, who posted two birdies and three bogeys in round one, finished with four birdies and only two bogeys Saturday.
