Golfers Look For Strong Finish at Gopher Invite

WAYZATA, Minn. -- The Marquette University men's golf team opened the fall season with mixed results following the first two rounds of competition Sunday at the Gopher Invitational.
LSU leads the field with a team score of 582 (301-281), two strokes ahead of Kent State (584) heading into Monday's final round. Third round tee times begin at 8 a.m. CT at the par-72 Spring Hill Golf Club in Wayzata, Minn. Live scoring is available at golfstat.com.
MU shot back-to-back scores of 310 and 315, respectively, and currently sits in 11th place (625). The Golden Eagles were led by senior Ben Sieg (Osseo, Wis.), who fired a 1-over-par 73 in the opening round followed by a 75 in round two. He sits tied for 16th place at 4-over 148 for the tournament.
While he was fourth out of the starting five in total birdies on the day, Sieg was the most consistent player overall by shooting par-or-better on 30 of the 36 holes played. His 27 pars was tied for the tournament lead alongside Colin Chapman of UNC Greensboro.
