ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Led by lone senior Matt Haase, a young Marquette University men's golf team opened the 2011-12 season with a 10th place finish at the Wolverine Intercollegiate.

Haase shot a 2-over-par 73 in Tuesday's third and final round at U-M Golf Course. Freshman Will Joiner, playing unattached as an individual, matches Haase's 73 to pace the Golden Eagles down the stretch.

While Haase (74-74-73=221) placed tied for 31st overall, sophomore Michael Motz was right behind his teammate on the leaderboard at 223 for the tournament, highlighted by a second-round 70.

Fellow sophomore Corey Konieczki, who opened with a 70 in Monday's first round finished at 225, followed by freshmen CJ Swift (232) and Austin Wilson (246) to round out the MU team scores.

Joiner paced all MU freshmen at 225 (76-76-73) in his first collegiate event, tied for third overall among the six Golden Eagles.
