Sept. 13, 2016
MADISON, Wis. - Sophomore Oliver Farrell shot a final round even par 72 to finish tied for 12th place (71-73-72—216, even par), and Marquette used par rounds from Charlie Maleki and Matt Murlick to hold team positioning in a three-way fourth place tie (289-291-290—870, 6-over-par) at the conclusion of the Badger Invitational, hosted by Wisconsin at University Ridge G.C.
The new-look Golden Eagles played consistently as a team in the three-day, season-opening event, ending each round in fourth place in the 13-team field and starting the new year with a tournament performance that would have ranked as the team’s third-lowest scoring event in 2015-16.
Farrell, who was Marquette’s scoring leader in his freshman season, was the leader again for MU in his season opener. He finished the tournament with 13 birdies and an eagle in the opening round on the par-5 16th hole.
Murlick played in his first collegiate tournament and posted a solid result, finishing tied for 23rd (75-72-72—219, 3-over-par). Outside of going 3-over-par over his first five collegiate holes on Sunday, Murlick went even par the rest of the way, including 13 straight par makes to close opening round play.
Maleki (77-72-72—221, 5-over-par) posted his second straight 72 round, scoring four birdies after starting 4-over-par through his first five holes. He finished tied for 27th.
Marquette returns to play at the Windon Memorial Classic, hosted by Northwestern Sept. 25-26.
