Kretz Leads Marquette In Final Round of Cardinal Collegiate

SIMPSONVILLE, Ky. -- Marquette University struggled to find its rhythm Tuesday in the final round of the Cardinal Collegiate and finished tied for 13th at The Cardinal Club after beginning the day in the top-10.
Senior Kelly Kretz led the Golden Eagles with a third-round 74 and tied for 27th place overall at 3-over-par 219 (73-72-74) along with junior teammate Matt Haase (71-71-77). MU was tied for eighth place coming into Tuesday after Haase and senior Ben Sieg fired back-to-back opening rounds of 71.
Miami (Ohio) went on to win the team title, three strokes better than Illinois State, at 857 for the tournament. Marshall's Aaron Boggs took home medalist honors with a score of 6-under 210 (70-69-71).
Marquette will play in the Windon Memorial Classic, which begins with 36 holes this Sunday, Sept. 26, at North Shore Country Club in Glenview, Ill. MU will be one of 17 schools competing in the tournament, hosted by Northwestern University. The event will conclude with a final round on Monday, Sept. 27.
