Golfers Finish Sixth at Windon Memorial

LAKE FOREST, Ill. - The Marquette University men's golf team missed out on its second straight top top-three finish, but still placed sixth overall in a highly competitive field at the Windon Memorial Classic after closing with a final round team score of 300 Monday at Knollwood Club.
MU, which was tied for third place following the first 36 holes of the two-day tournament on Sunday, finished at 880 (291-289-300) for the tournament, five strokes back from Ohio State and Purdue and eight strokes behind third-place Michigan.
Tournament host Northwestern (860) rallied Monday to win the team title, three strokes better than runner-up Kent State.
Marquette freshman Henry Klongland (T8) ended up at 2-under-par for the tournament with a 54-hole total of 214 (78-66-70). He was the only MU golfer to go under par in Monday's final round. Redshirt sophomore C.J. Swift and senior Corey Konieczki tied for 31st with final scorecards of 223.
The Golden Eagles' next two events will be played in Wisconsin, starting with the Badger Invitational, hosted by the University of Wisconsin-Madison, at University Ridge Golf Course, Sept. 29-Oct. 1.
Marquette will then host the Erin Hills Intercollegiate, Oct. 6-8, at Erin Hills, site of the 2017 U.S. Open.
