Sept. 26, 2016
GLENVIEW, Ill. - Oliver Farrell fired a final round 72 in windy conditions to finish tied for eighth place (70-75-72–217, 1-over-par), leading Marquette (293-296-302—891) in its 10th place showing at the Windon Memorial Classic, hosted by Northwestern at North Shore C.C.
Farrell posted his third career top-10 finish - he has been Marquette’s top finishing player in six of the 11 collegiate tournaments that he has participated in. After shooting a second round 75, Farrell quickly rebounded and went 4-under-par in his first four holes of the third round, including an eagle on the par-4 No. 4. Increased winds made scoring challenging over the rest of his round, but he did enough to card a top-10 spot.
In the first two events of 2016-17, Farrell is leading the Golden Eagles by averaging 72.6 strokes per round.
Final round play was hampered by sustained winds at 21 miles per hour and gusts topping 30 miles per hour, driving Monday’s average individual score to 76.44.
Preseason No. 6-ranked Florida was the event winner with a 3-under-par 861.
Marquette will welcome nine teams to its fourth home fall event in as many years, the Marquette Intercollegiate, at Milwaukee C.C. this coming Sunday-Monday (Oct. 2-3).
