Konieczki MU's Top Finisher at Windon Memorial Classic

GLENVIEW, Ill. -- Seniors Kelly Kretz and Ben Sieg each went 1-under-par 70 and freshman Corey Konieczki shot a 72 to lead the Marquette University men's golf team Monday in the final round of the Windon Memorial Classic at North Shore Country Club.
Marquette closed with its best score of the tournament with a third-round 294, which was 16 strokes better than the Golden Eagles' shot in their opening-round.
Konieczki was MU's top finisher at 224 for the tournament after posting back-to-back rounds of 78 and 74, respectively, on Sunday.
Kretz led the Golden Eagles with a combined 10 birdies over the three rounds of play. He carded a first-round 72, the team's low score after the first two rounds Sunday. Kretz finished one stroke behind Konieczki at 225 followed by Sieg at 229 (80-79-70).
MU placed 17th with a team score of 908. Only three strokes separated the top three team finishers led by Michigan which captured the team title with a score of 854 followed by Ohio State (855) and California (856).
The Golden Eagles will head to the West Coast for their final two events of the fall season. MU's next tourney will be the St. Mary's Invitational, Oct. 25-26, at Bayonet and Blackhorse Golf Club in Seaside, Calif., before heading back to play in the Pacific Invitational at Brookside Country Club, Nov. 1-3, in Stockton, Calif.
