BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- The Indiana men's golf team broke through with its first tournament title since the 2000 Legends Intercollegiate, winning the Hoosier Invitational by 33 shots. Marquette placed 10th in the 15-team tournament, shooting an 894.
The Hoosiers had the best score in each of the three rounds on their home course. Marquette finished 57 shots behind the tournament winners.
Individually, Indiana's Jeff Overton captured the individual title by five shots at 10-under-par, setting a new Indiana individual 54-hole record with 203. The fifth-ranked golfer in the nation won for the second time in as many tournaments.
Kyle Murphy paced the Marquette golfers. He shot a final-round 70 to improve to a 219 to finish in 16th place.
The Golden Eagles waste little time before competing again. Marquette plays in the Cardinal Intercollegiate tomorrow (Monday, Sept. 29) through Tuesday (Tuesday, Sept. 30).
