MU Golfers Hope To Shake Off Shaky Start

LAWRENCE, Kan. -- Day one was a grind for the Marquette University men's golf team as junior Kelly Kretz's second-round 73 was the team's lowest score Monday at the Kansas Invitational. With their first two rounds of the 2009-10 season now behind them, the Golden Eagles will have 18 holes remaining Tuesday to climb the leaderbaord.

With eight birdies over the first 36 holes, Kretz paced the Golden Ealges with an eight-over-par 152 (79-73) on day one of the event. Senior Mike McDonald finished with a 157, while Ben Sieg, Ryan Prickette and Matt Haase each shot 160.

Missouri leads the 14-team field at 589, led by back-to-back 71s by Jace Long, who sits atop the individual leaderboard at two-under-par.

Tuesday's final round will begin with a shotgun start at 8:30 p.m.
