LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Marquette closed out the Cardinal Classic with its best round of the tournament Tuesday. But low scores across the board prevented the Golden Eagles from moving up more than one spot at the Cardinal Club, as they finished sixth in the field of 15. Mike Van Sickle tied for fourth place at 10-under par.

"Everybody contributed today," said head coach Tim Grogan. "When you get four counting scores under par, you're going to put yourself in a good position. Having our best round of the tournament come on the last day, that's our goal. Just playing like we're capable of playing. The level we should be playing at is how we played today."

Van Sickle came back to card a 68 in the final round, matching his low round Monday. At 206 (68-70-68) for the tournament, the Marquette senior was six strokes behind medalist Trey Bowling, who opened and closed the three-round event with rounds of 65. Van Sickle's day was highlighted by a 40-foot eagle putt on hole nine, while Marquette's six eagles overall led the field.

Playing in his first collegiate event after taking a red shirt last year, Matt Hasse tied for 18th place with a three-under par 213 (73-69-71). Ben Sieg and Kelly Kretz each carded a 70, giving the Golden Eagles four sub-par scores on the day. Sieg birdied four consecutive holes, 7-10, Tuesday and ranked second overall in par-5 scoring at nine-under (4.25 avg.).

Marquette will play in the Windon Memorial Classic, hosted by Northwestern, Oct. 5-6. The two-day tournament will be held at the North Shore Country Club in Glenview, Ill.
