MU Struggles Down The Stretch at Badger Invite
Oct. 1, 2013
MADISON, Wis. – Marquette University finished in 12th place at the Badger Invitational, which concluded Tuesday at University Ridge Golf Course. MU now looks forward to this weekend when the Golden Eagles will tee up as host of the Erin Hills Intercollegiate.
Winds were gusting at over 20 miles per hour throughout Tuesday’s final round, creating even more difficult conditions than earlier in the week. Three Marquette golfers managed to tie for 25th place – freshman Henry Klongland and sophomores Nick Nelson and Zach Gaugert.
Nelson closed with a third-round 1-over-par 73 to lead the Golden Eagles on the final day of the 14-team tournament and finished with a 54-hole total of 224, moving up the leaderboard to match Klongland and Gaugert, who was playing as an individual.
South Carolina boasted the top two individuals of the three-day event and took home the team title with a combined score of 856, eight strokes better than runner-up Kansas.
The Erin Hills Intercollegiate, hosted by Marquette, is scheduled to begin Sunday, Oct. 6 at 8:30 a.m. Central time and run through Tuesday with 18 holes daily. Team practice rounds will be played on Saturday, Oct. 5. There will be free admission at Erin Hills Golf Course all four days. Live scoring will also be available at www.golfstatresults.com.
