Farrell, Maleki Post Top-10s at Northern Intercollegiate
Oct. 10, 2016
Farrell and Maleki excelled in an event where scores were high throughout on the par-71, 7,016-yard course. Farrell’s even-par 213 was the second-lowest 54-hole mark of his career - he was one of only five players in the field to finish the tournament at par or better. After scuffling with three bogeys on his final four holes Sunday, Farrell had a strong start on Monday morning, going out with a bogey-free 2-under-par on the front nine. He came in at even par to hold his top-five spot on the leaderboard.
Maleki’s 1-over-par 214 was his career low score and his first time breaking 220 on his score card. Playing as an individual, he had a steady finish with good holes sprinkled in - his final 36 holes of the Northern Intercollegiate included five birdies, three bogeys and 28 par makes. Maleki led the field with 35 pars made.
The tournament was marked by high scores, as all teams except No. 1-ranked Illinois finished over par and with total event scores around 900 or higher. The top-ranked team in the nation won going away with a 7-under-par 845 and had five of the Northern Intercollegiate’s top-seven finishers, with the exception of MU’s Farrell and Maleki.
Marquette concludes fall season play Oct. 28-30 in El Paso, Texas at the Price’s Give ‘Em Five Invitational.
