MASON, Ohio -- Marquette freshman Michael Bielawski tied a course record in the first round of the Provident Xavier Invitational.
Bielawski shot a 63 in the first round to tie the course record. He owned a two-shot lead after the first round. He shot a 70 in the second round to finish the day in second place with a nine-under, 133. He trails Jeff Overton of Indiana by three strokes. Overton, who has won two other tournaments that Marquette has participated in, tied the course record for two rounds.
Bielawski's total paced Marquette to a second-place standing. The Golden Eagles are one stroke off the pace, trailing Indiana. The Hoosiers are at eight-under, 560. Marquette was in third place following the first round.
Sophomore Kyle Murphy is also under par at two-under, 140. He is in a tie for 12th place.
Junior Nathan Colson is in 32nd place at two-over, 144. Junior Jason Gaare, participating in his first tournament of the year, is in 50th place at five-over, 147. Steve Sass, a sophomore, is in 55th place at six-over, 148.
Play concludes tomorrow at the Kings island Course in Mason, Ohio.
