Oct. 25, 2010
SEASIDE, Calif. -- Senior Kelly Kretz rebounded after a slow start to post an even-par 72 in the second of two opening rounds Monday and currently leads Marquette University at the Saint Mary's Invitational.
The Golden Eagles finished day one in ninth place among 15 teams in the overall standings. MU was in seventh following the opening round of competition held at Bayonet Golf Course, where junior Matt Haase posted a team low round of two-over-par 74.
Blackhorse Golf Course, the second track to be included in this year's event, was the site of round two later in the day. Kretz had moved to two-under after recording his third birdie. But he gave two strokes back over the next 10 holes and finished the day at 149 (77-72) for the tournament and is tied for 23rd place with one round remaining.
Haase (74-76) and freshman Corey Konieczki (76-74) sit one stroke back at 150. Notre Dame sits atop the team leaderboard with an overall score of 570.
