CARLSBAD, Calif. — With a 2-over-par 73, senior Pat Sanchez paced Marquette in Monday’s opening round of The Gifford Collegiate, hosted by UCLA at the La Costa Legends Course.
The Golden Eagles sit 14th on the 15-team ladder, as MU combined to shoot a 15-over-par 299. The 2-over-par round currently has Sanchez sitting in a tie for 25th place, just six strokes back of the lead. Marquette is 14 strokes back of leader Stanford, though the Golden Eagles sit just five strokes back of 10th place.
- Sanchez led Marquette with four birdies, including three as a part of his even-par 36 on the back nine.
- Senior Zach Gaugert finished with a 3-over-par 74 for the day, propelled by an even-par front nine. Gaugert was able to notch three birdies to couple 10 pars in his opening round. He currently sits 35th.
- Senior Nick Nelson turned in a back nine of 1-over-par 37, which featured a birdie, six pars, and just two bogeys.
- Redshirt senior CJ Swift posted a 2-over-par 37 on the front nine, highlighted by a streak of seven consecutive pars on holes 1-7.
Marquette will tee off with Harvard and San Jose State on hole No. 10 at 11:10 a.m. CT on Tuesday.
