McDonald Leads Marquette to 12th Place Finish at Saint Mary's Invitational

PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. -- Senior Mike McDonald closed with a one-under-par 71 as the Marquette University men's golf team climbed four spots in the final round Tuesday to finish in 12th place at the Saint Mary's Invitational.

MU saved its best for last to finish with team score of 908 (308-303-297), one stroke ahead of in-state rival Wisconsin. Only five schools, including team champion Nevada (869), scored better in the third round.

Play was suspended Monday due to darkness and Marquette remained in 16th place at the conclusion of the second round of action Tuesday morning at the par-72 Poppy Hills Golf Course.

When play resumed, MU was able to shave five strokes off of Monday's opening round score with a 303 in the second round. Junior Ben Sieg shot 72 followed by a 74 from McDonald.

McDonald tied for 11th place overall at four-over 220 (75-74-71). He led the final-round charge along with sophomore Matt Haase who closed with a 73. Sieg tied for 37th overall with a three-round total of 227 (78-72-77) and Haase tied for 61st place at 231 (81-77-73).
