MILWAUKEE –- The University Club of Milwaukee announced a 25-year partnership that will make the club the official home course for the Marquette University’s men’s golf team. Starting this Spring, The University Club’s Country Club location will host Marquette golf team practices and training sessions at its 18-hole championship caliber golf course. Designed by legendary golf architect Tom Bendelow, The University Club course has hosted both PGA Tour and U.S. Golf Association events.

“This partnership brings together two like-minded, non-profit organizations that value life-long learning and athletic pursuits. It’s a win-win – The University Club maximizes a historic asset and Marquette can practice on a world-renowned course in their own backyard,” said Dan Aiello, president of The University Club of Milwaukee’s Board of Directors. “Marquette’s golf team is among the top teams in the nation, and we are looking forward to playing a part in their continued success.”

Marquette won its second BIG EAST Men’s Golf Championship in the last three years in May 2017, its third all-time (2008, 2015, 2017). This past September, the Golden Eagles entered the NCAA Division I men’s golf top-25 poll for the first time since the program began play in 1924. Six of Marquette’s eight players hail from Wisconsin, Illinois and Michigan, including 2017 BIG EAST individual champion Matthew Bachmann (Sheboygan Falls, Wis.), all-BIG EAST selection Matt Murlick (Winnetka, Ill.) and Austin Kendziorski (Sussex, Wis.), who enters the spring season ranked in the nation’s top 100.

“Both Marquette University and The University Club of Milwaukee have a century-old commitment to excellence. Bringing our institutions together through a shared love of golf and continuous improvement will allow each of us to rise even higher,” said Bill Scholl, vice president and director of athletics at Marquette University. “The combination of a world-class golf course that is only minutes away from our downtown Milwaukee campus made The University Club the perfect fit for a long-term partnership.”

“To have a world-class practice facility, so close to campus, will be a game changer for our program,” said Steve Bailey, Marquette University head men’s golf coach. “We are thankful for the opportunity to partner with the University Club of Milwaukee, and appreciate the support from their membership and the Marquette golf community.”

The University Club recently engaged golf course architect Andy Staples to assist in developing a 10-year strategic plan to ensure it remains a championship course. A Wisconsin native and member of the American Society of Golf Course Architects (ASGCA), Staples is helping to identify opportunities to modernize the course while preserving the integrity of the playing conditions and the historic design.

In addition to a sprawling 18-hole course, the University Club’s golf amenities include:

  • A golf practice area with a full driving range and two short-game areas for practicing putting, sand play and shots up to 90 yards
  • Newly renovated, spacious locker rooms for men and women
  • Golf instruction from PGA golf professionals including group clinics, one-on-one lessons and video instruction
  • A beautifully appointed Golf Shop featuring fashionable designer golf apparel and top-line equipment
  • A soon-to-be-open, state-of-the-art indoor golf simulation range at the club’s City Club location
