Men's Golf Opens Spring Campaign at The Match Play in Orlando

Lutz, Fla. - The Marquette University men's golf team returns to the links for the first time in 2012 when it heads to The Match Play in Orlando, Fla., on Feb. 13-14. Play will be held at the par-72, 7,257-yard Tom Watson golf course at Reunion Resort.
Marquette was able to tee off shortly after 8 a.m. CT Monday morning following a 30-minute frost delay. For updates from the course, follow @MUGolfLive on Twitter. Live scoring is not available for this event, but an updated bracket and short recap will follow each day.
MU is one of 12 teams that will be competing in the tournament. Joining MU will be Central Arkansas, Connecticut, DePaul, Illinois State, Loyola Chicago, Notre Dame, Seton Hall, USC Upstate, USF, VCU and Villanova.
The tournament format will feature six individual matches, per head-to-head team match. The team with the most individual match victories will win the match and continue in the winner's bracket, while the losing team drops to the consolation bracket.
In the opening round, Marquette is matched up with conference-foe USF. The winner/loser of that match will meet the winner/loser of the USC Upstate vs Illinois State pairing in the next round. ,p> Representing Marquette at The Match Play will be senior Matt Haase, sophomores Corey Konieczki, Michael Motz and freshmen Adam Chester, Will Joiner and CJ Swift. This will be Chester's Marquette debut.
Last year, MU went 2-2 at The Match Play, which was held in Lutz, Fla., at the TPC Tampa Bay golf course. The Golden Eagles upset Notre Dame and Villanova to earn a berth in the semi-finals, before dropping two matches against Kennesaw Stand and Xavier. Haase was one of two MU players that recorded at least two individual victories in the team's four matches.
