Feb. 28, 2014
MILWAUKEE - The Marquette University men's golf team is set to tee off their 2014 spring season in the USF Invitational March 2-4, hosted by the University of South Florida, at Lake Jovita Country Club in Dade City, Fla.
The field will play 18 holes each day on the par-72, 7060-yard course. There will be seven top-40 teams competing this week including Illinois, Florida State, Auburn, USF, Mercer, Purdue and Memphis.
The Golden Eagles last competed back in early November at the Wendy's Kiawah Classic where Sophomore Nick Nelson claimed the individual title. Nelson shot a 54-hole, 6-under 210 to help lead MU to a second-place finish overall.
Head coach Steve Bailey added "We are ready to put all our hard work to the test. Our guys have held each other accountable this winter, challenging one another to "Win Every Day" in all we do. We have a great opportunity against a stellar field to continue where we left off in the fall."
MU participated in the USF Invitational last year finishing tied for 14th place. Adam Chester (T34) was MU's top individual with a three-round total of 225 (78-72-75), followed by Nick Nelson (T47) two strokes back at 227 (71-76-80).
Marquette will have a week off before their spring season gets rolling as they play in the National Invitational Tournament Mar. 14-16 in Tucson, Ariz.
