Kelly Kretz Named BIG EAST Golfer of the Week

March 16, 2011

MILWAUKEE -- Marquette University's Kelly Kretz (Antigo, Wis.) has been named BIG EAST Conference Golfer of the Week, the league announced Wednesday. It marks the second time in his career that Kretz, a senior, was selected for the weekly honor.

Highlighted by a second-round 67, Kretz finished at 1-under-par 215 and tied for 14th place to lead the Golden Eagles at the Rio Pinar Invitational, March 14-15, in Orlando, Fla.

His 67 this week at Rio Pinar Country Club was the second-lowest round recorded by the 6-foot-3 Kretz, relative to par, in 113 collegiate rounds played.

Kretz has been Marquette's top individual in five of the last six stroke-play events dating back to the Cardinal Intercollegiate in Simpsonville, Ky. this past September.

He now boasts 11 rounds of par-or-better in 2010-11 (31 career) and a career scoring average of 74.34, which is currently the third-lowest individual career scoring average in Marquette history.

Kretz was also named BIG EAST Golfer of the Week on April 6, 2010, after he had tied for fifth place at the Irish Creek Collegiate in Charlotte, N.C. to conclude the 2009-10 season.

Marquette golfers will return to action March 25-27 at the FAU Spring Break Championship in Delray Beach, Fla.
