Cloete Wins Big East Golfer of the Week
March 19, 2014
MILWAUKEE, Wis. – Junior men’s golfer Brandon Cloete has been named the Big East Golfer of the Week after his performance at last week’s National Invitational Tournament in Tucson, Ariz.
Cloete finished tied for 28th overall after shooting an even par 216 (74-72-70). After a slow start in round one, Brandon charged back up the leaderboard with an impressive 3-under par 72. In the third and final round, his 5-under par 70 was best among MU golfers on the week and helped lead the Golden Eagles to an 11th place finish in the tournament.
Head Coach Steve Bailey had nothing but praise for the junior from South Africa saying “Really proud of Brandon and his play this week, especially the way he finished. He got off to rocky starts both 2nd and 3rd rounds and went on to finish 3-under and 5-under respectively. Such a good reminder for our team to never stop battling, you never know when that run might come.”
Cloete and the rest of the Marquette golfers take a few weeks off before getting back out on the links on April 12-13 for the Hawkeye Invitational at Finkbine Golf Course in Iowa City, Iowa.
