MILWAUKEE -- The Marquette University men's golf team will conclude regular season play with a trip to the Hawkeye-Great River Entertainment Invitational, hosted by the University of Iowa, Saturday and Sunday (April 18-19).
After a light competition schedule earlier this spring, the Golden Eagles will play in an event for the second straight week after finishing tied for second at the El Macero Classic. This will be the second straight season Marquette has participated in the Hawkeye Invitational, finishing fifth last year with a team score of 892.

Marquette continues to have one of the deepest lineups in the BIG EAST conference -- entering this weekend's play, the Golden Eagles are the only team with five players who rank in the league's top-20 in scoring average. Junior Pat Sanchez (73.79, plus-2.04) ranks fifth in the BIG EAST and tied for eighth place at the El Macero Classic. Fellow junior Nick Nelson (74.00, plus-2.25), who finished tied for 16th last weekend in California, ranks sixth in the BIG EAST.
As a team, Marquette continues to lead the BIG EAST with a 295.38 scoring average, more than two shots better than second-place DePaul.
THOMAS' CAREER WEEKEND
Marquette freshman Trevor Thomas is coming off the best result of his young collegiate career at the El Macero Classic, carding a 221 (70-73-78) to finish tied for 12th. His 221 was just one stroke shy of his career low tournament score of 220, set at the Wendy's Kiawah Classic. Thomas tied his career low round of 70, in the first round of the event, aided by seven birdies. In total, Thomas finished the tournament with 11 birdies.
Last week, Marquette had four players rank in the top-11 for birdies made during the El Macero Classic ... Senior Brandon Cloete, along with Thomas led the charge with 11 birdies, while Zach Gaugert and Nelson finished the event with nine birdies.
Marquette will competefor a berth in the NCAA Championships atthe 2015 BIG EAST Championships at Callawassie Island Golf Club in South Carolina, April 26-28.
