Marquette Heads to Battle at the Warren
April 20, 2012
MILWAUKEE - The Marquette University men's golf team heads to Notre Dame, Indiana this weekend to take part in the four-team, 36-hole Battle at the Warren on Sunday, April 22.
The event marks the final time that MU golfers will take the course competitively before the BIG EAST Championship, which begins April 29 in Orlando, Fla. Joining the Golden Eagles at the event will be host-Notre Dame, Bradley and Illinois State.
"It will give us a good barometer for where we are," head coach Steve Bailey said, "but it's all about preparing for the BIG EAST championship."
Six Marquette golfers will participate in the event, an increase from the typical five in regular season play. Bailey thinks that the shift in format will benefit the Golden Eagles.
"Just to evaluate one extra person is big for us," Bailey said, "because we're not quite sure who were going to take [to the BIG EAST tournament] yet."
Looking ahead to the championship looming on the horizon, Bailey hopes that his squad will able to play good golf on the season's "biggest stage."
"I want everyone put their games together, to really bring everyone together and to have them peak at the same time," Bailey said. "I think if we can do that we have a chance to win."
Even though the team has struggled in 2011-12, Bailey has seen marked improvement in his team lately.
