Kretz Earns All-BIG EAST Honors

May 1, 2010

MILWAUKEE – Marquette University junior Kelly Kretz has been named All-BIG EAST Conference, voted on the league’s men’s golf coaches. Kretz led the Golden Eagles this past season with three top-10 finishes, while carrying a 74.30 scoring average.

Kretz, a native of Antigo, Wis., posted eight rounds of par-or-better in 2009-10 and was the team’s top finisher in five of the nine events he played.

He placed fifth at the Xavier Invitational where he carded a second-round 68, his low-round for the season which he’d also match at the FAU Spring Break Championship (T25th). Kretz then closed out the season with a fifth-place finish at the Irish Creek Collegiate and tied for eighth at the BIG EAST Men’s Golf Championship.

This is Kretz’s first All-BIG EAST accolade.

Louisville sophomore Riley Wheeldon was named BIG EAST Player of the Year while Coach of the Year went to Tommy Hunter of Georgetown. Seton Hall’s Brandon Park picked up Freshman of the Year honors.
