2018 NCAA Men's Golf Championship Field
INDIANAPOLIS -- BIG EAST Men’s Golf Champion Hunter Eichhorn and runner-up Matt Murlick have been selected as individuals to the NCAA Bryan (Texas) Regional, marking the first time in program history that Marquette will send two individuals to regional play.
The Bryan Regional, hosted by Texas A&M at Traditions Club, gets under way May 14-16. The top five teams from each of the six regional sites and the six top individuals from each region will advance to the NCAA Championships, set to be played May 25-30 at Karsten Creek Golf Club in Stillwater, Oklahoma.
Eichhorn is the first Marquette player to win the individual BIG EAST Championship and earn a solo automatic bid to regional play. MU has won three team titles (2008, 2015, 2017). The freshman from Carney, Michigan claimed the BIG EAST title by shooting a 2-under-par 214 at Callawassie Island G.C. to claim his second win of his collegiate career (Price’s Give ‘Em Five Invitational - Oct. 20-22). Eichhorn led Marquette in scoring average at 71.81 and is ranked No. 183 in the April 27 Golfstat ratings.
Murlick is the program’s first at-large selection to NCAA Regional play since M Club Hall of Famer Mike Van Sickle earned a pair of bids to regionals - he was selected in 2007 and 2009 (he was a No. 1 seeded player that season). A sophomore from Winnetka, Illinois, Murlick carded an even par 216 to finish tied for second at the BIG EAST Championships, earning all-tournament honors. He is ranked No. 219 in the Golfstat ratings.
Eichhorn and Murlick were two of Marquette’s three First Team All-BIG EAST selections.
Golfstat will provide live scoring coverage of NCAA Regional play, while the Golf Channel will televise the NCAA Championships.
