Van Sickle To Toss First Pitch at Miller Park
May 7, 2009
MILWAUKEE -- Mike Van Sickle has been invited to toss out a ceremonial first pitch this Friday at Miller Park prior to the Milwaukee Brewers' evening matchup against the Chicago Cubs. But the Marquette senior and member of the Golden Eagles men's golf team will not be the only person honored by the Brewers in the series opener versus their N.L. Central Division rival.
Milwaukee native Danny Gokey -- who on Wednesday learned he is one of three final contestants remaining on the eighth season of "American Idol" -- will be singing the national anthem before Friday's game and will also be throwing out a first pitch.
Ceremonial first pitches are scheduled to take place around 6:40 p.m. Friday with game time set for 7:05 p.m. Brewers pitcher Dave Bush (1-0) is slated to go up against Randy Wells (0-0) of the Cubs.
Van Sickle, who will graduate from Marquette University later this month, is ranked as one of the top amateur golfers in the world. A finalist for this year's Byron Nelson Award and semifinalist for The Ben Hogan Award, Van Sickle was named 2009 BIG EAST Player of the Year. He currently leads NCAA Division I in wins (5), scoring average (69.67) and birdies (160).
Gokey has joined Adam Lambert and Kris Allen as the only remaining contestants on the hit television show produced by Fox. Over 64 million fans cast their vote Tuesday night to decide the top three.
A limited number of tickets are still available for the game. To purchase tickets, visit the Milwaukee Brewers website or call the Brewers phone center at 414-902-4000. Normal hours are 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on weekdays.
