May 9, 2013
MILWAUKEE - Marquette University freshman Pat Sanchez was named to the 2013 All-BIG EAST Men's Golf team the league announced Thursday. The Mazatlan, Mexico native led the Golden Eagles in scoring average in his first season of collegiate golf.
One of 16 student-athletes named to the all-conference squad, Sanchez played in all 11 events Marquette participated in, recording an average of 75.75 in 10 stroke-play tournaments. He also carded the team's low-round in 2012-13 with a 68 in the third round of the Wendy's Kiawah Classic.
Sanchez tied for 15th place, his best finish of the campaign, at the Windon Memorial, just his second collegiate tournament. He also closed the year strong with top-30 finishes at the Kemper Sports Intercollegiate and BIG EAST Championship.
USF newcomer Chase Koepka was selected as both the BIG EAST Player of the Year and BIG EAST Freshman of the Year. Bulls' head coach Chris Malloy was named BIG EAST Coach of the Year.
