Division I PING All-Region Teams
STILLWATER, Okla. — Marquette’s Hunter Eichhorn and Matt Murlick were named to the Division I PING All-Midwest Region Team, announced by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) on Saturday at the NCAA Men’s Golf Championships.
Only Pat Sanchez (2015) and Mike Van Sickle (2007-09) have earned GCAA All-Region honors in MU’s history prior to Eichhorn and Murlick.
Both completed NCAA Bryan Regional play last week - Murlick, who qualified via at-large berth, tied for 19th place with a program-record 217 in NCAA regional play. Eichhorn, the automatic qualifier from the BIG EAST, tied for 25th in his regional debut.
Eichhorn, a freshman from Carney, Michigan, was named the BIG EAST Player of the Year and Freshman of the Year last week, the league’s first dual winner since 2013. Eichhorn won the conference championship with a 2-under-par 214 performance, the second freshman in a row to win the league crown. He averaged a team-low 71.88 during the season.
Murlick was the runner-up to Eichhorn at the BIG EAST Championship, shooting an even par 216. He finished second on the team with a 72.25 scoring mark, third in the conference. The sophomore from Winnetka, Illinois was eighth in the nation with eight eagle makes this season and was Marquette’s top finisher in three starts.
Both earned First Team All-BIG EAST honors in 2017-18.
