Mike Van Sickle Selected to U.S. Open Field

Former Marquette golfer Mike Van Sickle (2005-09) was selected to play in the 2016 U.S. Open, June 16-19 at Oakmont Country Club in suburban Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
Van Sickle, the school's all-time leader in scoring average (71.64) and wins (11) is the first MU golfer to be selected for U.S. Open play. He turned pro following his graduation in 2009 and has spent time on the Web.com Tour and the Canadian McKenzie Tour.
The 29-year-old Wexford, Pa. native will tee off in his first major appearance on Thursday at 5:56 a.m. CT with Tom Hoge and amateur Nick Hardy.
One of the most decorated individuals in Marquette Athletics history, Van Sickle was inducted into the M Club Hall of Fame in February 2016 and was the recipient of the 63rd McCahill Award in 2009. He was a three-time All-BIG EAST selection and was named the league's player of year and a PING First Team All-American in 2009. Van Sickle won the Byron Nelson Award in 2009, recognizing his career academic and golf achievements.
