June 23, 2008
MILWAUKEE -- Mike Van Sickle, who will be entering his senior season with the Marquette University men's golf program, has been named a Golfweek All-America honorable mention selection, the publication recently announced. The award is the latest in a series of honors earned by Van Sickle following a record-breaking season in 2007-08.
In addition to posting three collegiate victories during his junior campaign, Van Sickle also set school records for lowest scoring average (71.39) and rounds of par-or-better (27), among other single-season and career marks. Van Sickle was named both an All-BIG EAST and a PING Division I All-America honorable mention selection for the second consecutive year in 2008.
This past weekend, Van Sickle played in the 47th Annual Northeast Amateur Invitational Golf Tournament, one of the most competitive and prestigious amateur events in the United States. After four rounds, he finished tied for fourth out of 81 golfers at 5-under par 275 at the par-69 Wannamoisett Country Club (Rumford, R.I.).
Earlier this year, Van Sickle played in the Sunnehanna Amateur Tournament for Champions. He is also scheduled to join some of the nation's best amateurs at the Porter Cup, July 23-26, in Lewiston, N.Y.
