Sept. 11, 2013
BETHPAGE, N.Y. - The Marquette University men's golf team opens up a new season this weekend when they head to New York and the Bethpage Red Course to compete in The 2013 Doc Gimmler, (formerly known as The McLaughlin) Sept. 14-15.
The 2013-2014 season tees off with two newcomers, Henry Klongland and Brandon Cloete, making their debut for the Golden Eagles. The rest of the lineup will be comprised of C.J. Swift, Pat Sanchez, and lone senior Corey Konieczki. Nick Nelson will play as an individual.
The tournament begins with 36 holes on Saturday followed by a final round on Sunday. Marquette head coach Steve Bailey is confident in his team heading into the season opener.
"We're seeing a lot of positives, that's going to give us a ton of confidence heading into New York," said MU head men's golf coach Steve Bailey. "The biggest thing is everyone buying in to what we're doing, what our team mission is. The results are going to come, the tournament wins are going to come, and the better rounds are going to come; that is all a product of doing the right thing."
Marquette competed last year at Bethpage finishing 12th behind the help of top individual Pat Sanchez who finished T-31st.
