Golfers Continue Fall Season at Windon Memorial

Sophmore Henry Klongland will appear in Marquette's lineup for the first time this fall

SKOKIE, Illinois - The Marquette University men's golf team will continue the fall portion of its schedule this weekend as they tee off in the Windon Memorial Classic, Sept. 21-22, about an hour down the road at Evanston Golf Club.

Marquette's lineup will once again include Nick Nelson and Pat Sanchez who finished 10th and 11th, respectively, at the Northern Intercollegiate held at Rich Harvest Farms, along with Zach Gaugert, Brandon Cloete and Henry Klongland, who also competed in the season-opening tournament earlier this month.

Freshman Garrett Loomis will be become the second rookie (Trevor Thomas) in as many events to make a collegiate debut. Loomis will be playing this weekend as an individual, unattached from the team score.

Along with MU and host Northwestern, other schools in this year's field include Iowa, Purdue, Tulsa, Notre Dame, St. John's, Tennessee, California and in-state rival Wisconsin.

The tournament returns to Evanston, which first hosted the event in 2011. The par-70 Donald Ross designed course opened in 1917, was restored in 2006 and stretches to about 6,800 yards.

The Golden Eagles placed sixth at last year's event, which included a strong showing from Klongland. The then-freshman finished tied for eighth place, highlighted by a second round 66.



Past individual champions of The Windon Memorial include Luke Donald and current PGA Tour members Hunter Mahan and Colt Knost. Tiger Woods, Ben Curtis and Gary Woodland have all finished runner-up in this event.
