Marquette Men's Golf Ranked No. 15

Sept. 23, 2008

MILWAUKEE -- Coming off its first BIG EAST Men's Golf Championship last spring, Marquette University opened the 2008-09 season as the No. 15-ranked team in the country, according to the latest Golfweek/Sagarin Performance Index.

Marquette is also receiving votes in the Golf World/Nike Men's Division I Coaches Poll.

Unlike the coaches poll, which is a tabulation of individual votes, the Golfweek/Sagarin Performance Index is a ratings system that calculates a team's performance in competition relative to the strength of opposition.

The latest rating takes into account the Golden Eagles' finish in the only tournament they've played this fall -- the Gopher Invitational (Sept. 12-14) -- where Marquette tied for sixth place out of 12 teams, eight of which played in an NCAA Regional in 2007-08. Senior All-American Mike Van Sickle won the event, his school record seventh collegiate victory.

Marquette will travel next week to the Cardinal Classic, hosted by the University of Louisville, Sept. 29-30.
