LAWRENCE, Kan. -- The Marquette University men's golf team opens its 2009-10 season Monday at the Kansas Invitational. Fourteen teams will compete in the two-day, 54-hole tournament to be held at the par-72 Alvamar Golf Course.
Two rounds will be played Monday beginning with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. CT, followed by 18 holes on Tuesday. In addition to the Golden Eagles and host Kansas, other participating teams include: Idaho, Illinois State, Houston, Louisiana, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Oklahoma City University, Seton Hall, South Dakota, UMKC and Western Kentucky.
Live scoring is not available for this week's event.
Head coach Tim Grogan, a two-time BIG EAST Conference Coach of the Year, returns for his 19th season at Marquette. He also returns six members of last year's squad, including three players -- juniors Kelly Kretz and Ben Sieg and sophomore Matt Haase -- who competed in the 2009 BIG EAST Championship, where the Golden Eagles rallied to a second-place finish.
This year's roster also includes junior college transfer Curtis McCormac, a Second Team NJCAA All-America selection this past spring after helping lead McLennan Community College (Texas) to an NJCAA Division I national championship. McCormac was also a member of the Midland College (Texas) team that captured the 2008 NJCAA national title.
