Golfers Go Head-To-Head Some Of Nation's Finest

MILWAUKEE -- Defending Windon Memorial Classic champion Mike Van Sickle and the Marquette men's golf take will take part in the 12th annual event, held this year at North Shore Country Club in Glenview, Ill., Oct. 5-6.

Marquette placed ninth at the tournament last year, while Van Sickle posted his first victory of the season. The All-American shot a seven-under par 206 (70-70-66) at Lake Shore Country Club in Glencoe, Ill.

Eight nationally ranked squads highlight the 15-team field. Participating teams include host Northwestern, Illinois, No. 17 Kent State, Purdue, Coastal Carolina, Liberty, Missouri, Tulsa, San Jose State, Michigan, Santa Clara, Colorado, No. 21 Indiana and New Mexico.

Van Sickle, who captured his first win of the season by claiming the Gopher Invitational title, looks to add to his school record seven collegiate victories. He placed fourth at the Cardinal Classic, while red shirt freshman Matt Haase -- playing in his first collegiate event -- fired a three-under 213 and tied for 18th place. Overall, the Golden Eagles had four players shoot under par in their last round at Louisville.

The Golden Eagles are coming off a pair of top-10 finishes to open the season. MU placed sixth at last week's Cardinal Classic hosted by Louisville. Marquette tied for sixth at the Gopher Invitational to open the 2008 campaign.

This is the third time the tournament will be held a the par 72, 7,031-yard North Shore Country Club.

Marquette will play a practice round Saturday, followed by the first 36 holes of competition beginning Sunday morning at 7:30 a.m. The final round will be played Monday.
