Marquette Golf Begins Northern Intercollegiate Play Sunday

Marquette will play its third 54-hole event in three weekends when the Golden Eagles travel to the Northern Intercollegiate, hosted by Northern Illinois at Beverly Country Club in Chicago this Sunday and Monday (Oct. 9-10).

The first and second rounds will be played on Sunday with shotgun start tee times beginning at 8:45 a.m. CT.  Final round tee times go off No. 1 and No. 10 between 7:45 a.m. and 9:33 a.m. on Monday.

  • One of Marquette’s first and second round playing partners is No. 1-ranked Illinois.  The Illini, champions of the 2016 NCAA Kohler, Wisconsin Regional hosted by Marquette, have won their first two events of the 2016-17 season.
  • The Golden Eagles are second in BIG EAST average round scoring at 291.4 (+6.1 vs. par).  Matt Murlick (72.1) is fourth among BIG EAST golfers in stroke average, while Oliver Farrell (72.56) ranks sixth.
  • Farrell has been excellent in first round play, averaging 70.67 in opening rounds this season, while Murlick has been a solid closer - his final round average is 71.0.
  • Garrett Loomis has elevated his level of play in the last two events - beginning with the second round of the Windon Memorial Classic on Sept. 25, Loomis is averaging 71.8 strokes per round and has posted four of his five lowest round scores in his Marquette career.
