SEASIDE, Calif. -- Marquette University concluded play at the Saint Mary's Invitational on Tuesday with a ninth-place finish at the par-72 Bayonet Golf Course led by another solid round by senior Kelly Kretz.
Kretz was MU's top individual finisher, placing tied for 14th place, after picking up where he left off yesterday by carding an even par for the second consecutive round to end up at 221 (77-72-72).
"We are starting to see some improvements, and our hard work is paying off," said Marquette head men's golf coach Steve Bailey. "We need to finish our rounds and manage our games a little better."
Sieg posted his best round of the tournament Tuesday with a third-round 73, which included a team-high five birdies. Sieg's biggest setback on the day was a double bogey on the par-4 hole 16. Sieg finished at 226 (77-76-73), one stroke behind teammate Matt Haase at 225 (74-76-75).
Notre Dame won the team title, finishing at 3-under 861, 17 strokes better than host Saint Mary's (881), which finished runner-up.
Marquette will head back to California again Nov. 1-3, for the Pacific Invitational at Brookside Country Club in Stockton, Calif.
