MU Golf Concludes Fall Schedule at Kiawah Island

KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. - The Marquette University men's golf team will wrap up the fall portion of its schedule this weekend at the Wendy's Kiawah Classic at Turtle Point Golf Club in Kiawah Island, South Carolina on Nov. 2-4.

Marquette will send the same lineup that played last week in South Carolina. Representing the Blue and Gold will be juniors Zach GaugertNick Nelson, Pat Sanchez, CJ Swift along with freshman Trevor Thomas.

Marquette hopes to bounce back from a 12th place finish last weekend at the Bridgestone Golf Collegiate at Grandover East. Redshirt junior CJ Swift led all Golden Eagles by placing T29 and carding a three-round total of 223 (+7).

Joining the Golden Eagles and host Charleston Southern in Kiawah Island will be No. 38 Winthrop, No. 53 GRU Augusta and No. 54 Georgia Southern. Teams rounding out the 20-team field include: Appalachian State, Bethune-Cookman, Coastal Carolina, Creighton, Gardner-Webb, George Washington, High Point, Jacksonville State, Missouri, Presbyterian, Radford, Richmond, USC Upstate, Temple and Western Kentucky.

The par 72 layout at Turtle Point G.C. will once again play host to this year's tournament. A course that plays at about 7,100 yards has played host to the South Carolina Amateur, the Carolina PGA, and the 1990 PGA Cup Matches. All three rounds will begin with tee times scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. Eastern time.



Marquette returns to Turtle Point after a second place finish in last year's event which saw South Carolina run away with the team title. Nelson, who won the event, became the first Golden Eagle to win medalist honors in a Division I event since Mike Van Sickle in 2009. Nelson led the way by firing a three-round total of 210 (-6) which was highlighted by a second round 67.
