Marquette Golf Set To Finish Fall At Gifford Collegiate

Oliver Farrell leads the BIG EAST in scoring at 71.1 strokes per round.

Marquette plays its final event of the fall semester, traveling west to the 11th Annual Gifford Collegiate, hosted by La Costa Resort and Spa and UCLA Nov. 2-4 at the Legends Course in Carlsbad, California.

The Gifford Collegiate is an invitation from UCLA, which is receiving votes in the GCAA Bushnell/Golfweek Coaches’ Poll - the Bruins finished third at the Erin Hills Intercollegiate in October, while No. 1 player Jonathan Garrick won medalist honors at Erin Hills.  The Gifford field is strong - No. 5 Stanford and No. 25 USF are the event’s ranked teams while Oregon, Texas A&M, San Diego State and Washington are all receiving votes.

MARQUETTE NOTES

  • Following a seventh-place finish and a 8-under-par 208 performance at the Price’s Give ‘Em Five Invitational, Oliver Farrell enters the week as the BIG EAST leader in scoring average at 71.1 strokes per round - he is the only player in the league with a sub par average (0.56-under-par).
  • Farrell ranks 52nd in NCAA Division I in scoring - he has shot par or better in four of six rounds in October, and six of eight dating back to September - he has posted three sub-60 rounds in October.
  • MU is the only BIG EAST team with four players in the league’s top 15 - Farrell, Nick Nelson (4th - 72.5), Zach Gaugert (11th - 73.8), Garrett Loomis (12th - 73.9) and CJ Swift (14th - 74.0).
  • The Price’s Give ‘Em Five Invitational also marked career-best tournaments for Nick Nelson (7-under-par, 209) and Zach Gaugert (4-under-par, 212) - both have fired four sub-par rounds over their last six, dating back to the Erin Hills Intercollegiate (Oct. 4-6).
