Nick Nelson adds WSGA Player of the Year honors to an accomplished 2015.
Nov. 19, 2015
Marquette senior Nick Nelson was recognized as the 2015 Wisconsin State Golf Association (WSGA) Player of the Year in the November/December issue of Wisconsin Golfer.
Nelson (Brown Deer Park G.C.) finished atop the Amateur Player of the Year standings thanks to a pair of summer victories - he was the medalist at the U.S. Open Local Qualifier at Hidden Glen in May and won the WSGA Match Play Championship in June at The Bull at Pinehurst Farms.
For Nelson, the honor adds to an already accomplished 2015 calendar year. In May, Nelson was named All-BIG EAST for the first time in his career after finishing 10th at the conference championships, helping lead Marquette to a team title and NCAA Regional berth. Nelson finished the fall 2015 season with a 73.7 stroke average, second on the team and ninth in the BIG EAST.
While Nelson finished first in the WSGA Player of the Year standings, three other Marquette players were in the Top-20 - 2016 signee Matthew Bachmann (14th, 445 pts), Zach Gaugert (15th - 442.5 pts) and Pat Sanchez (19th, 387.5 pts).
