Henry Klongland Signs National Letter of Intend
Nov. 24, 2012
MILWAUKEE - Henry Klongland of Stoughton, Wis., has signed a national letter of the intent to enroll at Marquette University and play golf for the Golden Eagles beginning in 2013.
A senior at Stoughton High School, Klongland is currently the top-ranked junior in the state of Wisconsin according to the latest Junior Golf Scoreboard rankings.
"Henry is the epitome of what we look for in a student-athlete, in every facet," said MU head men's golf coach Steve Bailey. "First and foremost, he is a quality person who comes from a wonderful family."
Klongland collected Golf Coaches Association of Wisconsin (GCAW) Boys All-State first-team honors last year, along with future MU teammate Zach Gaugert, and was a third team all-state selection in 2011 following his sophomore season with the Vikings. He also collected GCAW Academic All-State recognition.
In addition, Klongland's impressive resume includes First Team All-Badger Conference accolades in 2010, 2011 and 2012 under Stoughton head coach Dave Taebel, and a runner-up finish at the 2011 Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association boys state golf tournament after he closed with a final-round 67. That performance followed a second-place finish at the sectional tournament.
"If his final-round play at this year's state tournament is any indication of his future, his time at Marquette could be very bright," added Bailey. "Henry has one of the best short games I've seen at the junior level, especially when it comes to his putting."
Klongland notably captured medalist honors at the Viking/Spartan Invite and the Monona Grove Invite, while placing second at the Badger Conference Tournament. He also impressed with a runner-up finish at a USGA Junior Amateur qualifier this past summer and a third-place performance at the AJGA's McArthur Towel & Sports Future Legends event.
A two-sport student-athlete throughout his prep career, Klongland also served as co-caption of the Stoughton boys cross country team this past fall.
He is the son of Scott and Molly Klongland.
