MOON TOWNSHIP, Pennsylvania – Pittsburgh-native Andy DeMichiei posted a hat trick as the Marquette University men’s lacrosse team took down Robert Morris, 14-7, on Saturday afternoon at Joe Walton Stadium.

DeMichiei scored the game’s first goal for the Golden Eagles (3-2) at the 12:39 mark of the first quarter before the Colonials (4-3) scored three in a row midway through the opening stanza.

“I thought (the offense) bought in to what Coach (Stephen) Brundage and Coach (Ryan) Brown were working on and just made the simple play, moving off ball and doing their jobs,” Marquette head coach Joe Amplo said. “Andy made the simple play and the game came to him a little bit. He was the beneficiary of a lot of other guys doing a lot of little things right.”

Sophomore John Wagner and senior Ryan McNamara each scored to close out the first quarter and start an 11-0 run by the Golden Eagles through the close of the third.

Midfielder Robbie Pisano scored with 4:31 left in the third to cap the run and give Marquette a 12-3 edge. RMU’s leading scorer, Adrian Torok-Orban, scored in transition to begin the fourth quarter a man down, while Keenan Moffitt and Scott McNamara each scored for Marquette in the frame.

Reigning BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week Cole Blazer made eight saves in net for Marquette in nearly 50 minutes, while Jimmy Danaher and Chris Rolfing each played five minutes of the fourth quarter.

Marquette’s Zachary Melillo won 11-of-19 face-offs and MU won the ground ball battle 27-24.

“We know who we are and what we need to do to be who we are,” Amplo said of the team’s progress heading into BIG EAST play. “We’ve got to work hard for the next two weeks to prepare for a tough Georgetown team.”

The Golden Eagles will return to Milwaukee, where they will spend the University’s spring break training before beginning BIG EAST Conference play on Saturday, March 25 at Georgetown.
