DENVER, Colo. - Marquette (2-6) suffered its second straight loss to a top-five nationally ranked opponent as the Golden Eagles dropped a 15-4 decision Friday night to the No. 3/3 Denver Pioneers (8-2) in front of over 2,000 fans at Peter Barton Lacrosse Stadium.

It was the lowest offensive output of the season for MU, which was coming off a 17-5 loss to No. 5/4 Notre Dame earlier this week.

Marquette was out-scored by a margin of 3-1 in both the first and second quarters as Denver managed to take a 6-2 advantage at halftime. The Pioneers, who remained undefeated at home (4-0) and have now won seven of its last eight games, used a pair of four-goal runs to distance itself from the visitors late in the second half.

Tyler Melnyk added two second-half goals for Marquette in the second half, his team-leading 12th and 13th tallies on the season.

MU won the groundball (29-26) and faceoff battles (12-of-23) for the second consecutive game. K.C. Kennedy (11-of-20) took the majority of faceoffs for the Golden Eagles and had three groundballs, matching him Liam Byrnes, Charley Gargano and Jacob Richard for the team-high Friday.

Marquette returns to action next Saturday, April 13, at High Point in what will be a contest between a pair of first-year programs. Both MU and the Panthers began competing in NCAA Division I at the start of this season.
