MILWAUKEE - The Marquette University men's lacrosse team concluded its inaugural season Sunday afternoon at Hart Park in Wauwatosa, Wis., in front of a record 4,202 fans, falling to the No. 6/8 Duke Blue Devils, 19-3.

The Golden Eagles finished their inaugural campaign 5-8. Duke opened up the scoring early when junior Brendan Fowler won the game's opening faceoff and took it all the way, scoring four seconds into the first quarter. After the Blue Devils jumped out to an early 4-0 lead, redshirt-freshman Kyle Whitlow got Marquette on the board when he scored his 18th goal of the season off an assist from freshman Conor Gately. Duke held a 10-1 lead after the first stanza.

After the Blue Devils opened the second period with a goal at the 9:09 mark, the Golden Eagles scored their second goal of the half when redshirt-junior Cullen Cassidy won the faceoff and drove all the way into the Duke zone, where he scored his second goal of the season at the 9:03 mark.

In the first half, Duke was 11 for 11 on clear opportunities, while Marquette was only eight of 13. The Blue Devils led 12-2 at the half.

Redshirt-sophomore Ben Dvorak scored Marquette's third goal of the afternoon at the 5:07 mark in the third period off an assist from Gately.

Duke outshot Marquette 37 to 30 for the game and the three goals allowed tied for fewest the Blue Devils have allowed this season.

MU goaltender JJ Sagl recorded six saves on the afternoon in 37 minutes, while freshman goaltender Matt Barone notched two saves in his 22 minutes in goal.

The matchup against No.6 Duke marked the fifth top-20 team Marquette faced in 2013.

Head coach Joe Amplo reunited with his mentor, Duke head coach John Danowski. Amplo was a walk-on under Danowski at Hofstra and later coached with Danowski at his alma mater.
