MILWAUKEE - The Marquette University men's lacrosse team will start its 2016 slate with scrimmages against Michigan and Denison at Oosterbaan Field House in Ann Arbor, Michigan, on Saturday, Jan. 30.

The Golden Eagles are expecting to play a full scrimmage against Michigan at noon Central time on Saturday, and conclude the day with a half scrimmage against Denison later in the day.

"We'll sub liberally, but it'll be a majority of the guys right now who are at the top of the depth chart who will get a good portion of that run," Marquette head coach Joe Amplo said of the playing time distribution for this weekend. "But we'll be more liberal in our subbing to just try and get some looks and see what kind of depth we have."

Michigan is a familiar foe in scrimmage play for Marquette, as this will be the fourth consecutive year the two opponents have faced-off in an exhibition matchup. The Golden Eagles won last year's matchup, 11-9 in Ann Arbor.

Like Marquette, Michigan is a fairly young program, entering only its fifth year of Division I competition. The Wolverines finished 2015 with a 5-6 record, and 1-3 in Big Ten play. The five wins tied a program high, which was also done in 2014.

Denison will enter the scrimmage at the No. 17 ranked team in Inside Lacrosse's Division III preseason poll, and finished its 2015 campaign with a 13-4 record.

Marquette enters 2016, its fourth competitive campaign in program history, with a new set of expectations. After cracking the top-10 in the national rankings last season, starting 2015 with a 7-0 record, which included numerous thrilling late comebacks, the Golden Eagles will seek the program's first-ever tournament bid in 2016.

Following the scrimmages, Marquette will take on High Point and Cornell in exhibition matchups, followed by the regular season home lidlifter on Feb. 20 against Bellarmine.
